A wood carving was the sculpture that started Tim’s art career. He found a piece of wood on the shores of a reservoir near his home while 4- wheeling. He knew right away that it was to be a dragon. He brought it home and started carving in the middle of his living room floor. He took 2 weeks vacation to work on it and then quit his job to do art full time.

Tim’s son got him a welder and he started playing with scrap metal and you can say “the rest is history”. Many people ask what inspires a piece. Sometimes it is the piece of metal, like Pistons became horse hooves, and other times  he knows what he wants to make and he goes looking for parts to fit. There are times when he walks past a part and he gets an idea for a sculpture.

Tim is always scrounging for parts. People give him some, and he has machine, clutch, and tranny shops that let him go through the discard pile as well as any place that is throwing away metal. He found a 50’s Chevy truck hood and grill on a ranch in Wyoming and knew it would be a crab. It took several years before he got a call from a friend of a friend who knew he collected parts. The Harley dealership was getting rid of truckloads of new mufflers. Those became legs for Mamma Crusty. His life size buffalo took years of collecting chains to get enough.

Tim uses the experiences of diverse occupations to create. His most often received award is “People’s Choice”.

Tim and his wife Teresa are the parents of 6 children, a daughter and son-in-law, and 7 grandchildren. They live in Riverton, UT
